Mentors as Teachers

TeacherOur approach is intensive adult mentorship coupled with a customized education plan built around each student’s personal interest and learning strengths. A successful mentoring relationship helps the student clearly define and achieve short-term goals, promoting a pattern of success. mentors also act as liaisons between Liberty Learning Center and potential employers often resulting in gainful employment for students who may otherwise have become dependents of the state.

Becoming a Mentor

Volunteer mentors are vital to the LLC’s success. The lack of available, close mentoring relationships is one of the major setbacks for students attending school in traditional high school settings.  This is especially true for students who have individualistic personalities and learning styles.

Mentors are available to students for both academic and personal consultation and often offer one-on-one learning opportunities for their students. Mentors may teach classes, offer tutoring, or other specialized training for the students. Additionally, individuals in the position of a mentor act as a liaison between the LLC and potential employers.  This networking often results in gainful employment for students who may have otherwise become dependents of the state.

In order for the LLC to expand, we need more mentors! Keeping a small ratio of students to mentors has proven to be most effective as a mentoring relationship takes time and dedication. For more information on becoming a mentor, please contact Cheri Isett at cheri@libertylearningcenter.org or (806) 786-8019.
